D-Galacturonic Sugar acids
Naturally occurring uronic acids are d-glucuronic
oxidized acid, d-galacturonic acid, l-iduronic acid and d-mannuronic
acid. Uronic acids are produced by the oxidation of the
alcohol group of monosaccharides. They play a significant
role in the detoxification of substances such as drugs.
D-Galacturonic acid is a sugar acid, an
oxidized form of d-galactose. It is the main
component of pectin, in which it exists as
the polymer polygalacturonic acid.
