Velux Solar-Powered No
Leak ‘Fresh Air’ Skylight
At first glance, skylights and solar energy might appear to be a
surprise pairing. But Velux found a way to make the combination
as natural as…sunlight. The company’s Solar Powered No Leak
“Fresh Air” Skylight features a solar panel that captures available
daylight and uses it to open and close the window when
desired. The result is natural light, fresh air and efficient home
cooling, while limiting use of utility-generated electricity and
reliance on traditional HVAC units.
The skylight is controlled by an efficient, concealed battery-
powered operator and a handheld remote, which includes a
timer function. Installation is relatively simple (it comes
assembled straight out of the box) thanks to a lack of wiring. The
window provides an approximate 80 percent heat block. And
there is a rain sensor that closes the skylight in case bad weather
hits while the homeowner is away.
The product is also eligible for a 30 percent federal tax credit
through 2019. The window carries a 10-year, no-leak warranty.
