                  A) Direct



                  -Demonstration of acid-fast scolices (red) in the urine or sputum after staining with

                  Ziehl-Neelsen stain.


                  -Radio-diagnosis :Plain X-ray

                  -Blood examination for eosinophilia

                  B) Indirect :




                  1) Intra-dermal allergic test (Casoni test):
                  Intra-dermal injection of 0.2 ml of sterile hydatid fluid in one forearm
                                                                                                .

                  -Normal saline (0.2 ml) is injected intra-dermally in the other forearm as a control .


                  -In positive cases, an erythematous wheal is formed within 20 minutes  .

                  -A delayed reaction may appears after 24 hours

                                                                       .

                  2) Serological tests  :using hydatid fluid antigen to detect circulating antibodies.
