Setup Recommendations for Bar Overhang

A common problem associated with any cutting
tool is extending the tool beyond its support point.
This condition of excessive overhang can cause
chatter, poor fi nishes, or inadequate tool life. Toolholder

We recommend a 4:1 ratio (4 times bar diameter) overhang when steel shank carbide shank
using steel shank bars and up to a 10:1 (10 times bar diameter) shank diameter ratio 4:1 ratio 10:1
overhang when using carbide shank bars. The overhang ratios (inch) (inch) (inch)
are affected by many factors:
