13CHAPTER 1In the 1996 Kentucky Derby, famous trainer D. Wayne Lukas sent a horse named Prince of Th ieves and another horse named Grindstone to the gate, both with top jockeys: Pat Day on Prince of Th ieves, Jerry Bailey on Grindstone. Grindstone, however, injured himself in his herculean eff ort and was promptly retired to stud, not to go on to the second race in the Triple Crown.
