Page 7 - A Dissertation for Doctor of Philosophy
P. 7
Professor Al Fasol, who is my first preaching teacher and dissertation supervisor, encouraged
me with a warm, brotherly smile and a constant barrage of short shots of encouragement like:
“You’re getting there,” and “You are worthy of it.” Without his capable, amiable academic
leadership and worm caring heart, this research work would have been being available for
scholarly discussion, was always willing to open his door for the sharing of joy as well as the
frustrations of ministry. I would like to extend as well my gratitude to the other faculty of the
preaching department, namely, Dr. Jimmie Nelson and Dr. Harold Freeman who invested their
scholarship to enrich my knowledge of preaching. I also wish to thank my learned friend Dr.
Raymond Spencer who provided insightful suggestions.
I would like to acknowledge the support of the staff of A. Webb Roberts Library at
Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. Likewise, I am also grateful
for my Korean friends in the Seminary who, our of dear friendship, helped me in many ways.
Many thanks go to Mr. Jeff Guleserian and Mrs. Cathy Drewry who provided assistance in
proofreading and editing of the text and in working on form and style.
I have to express my utmost appreciation for the sacrificial support and prayers of many
people and churches on behalf of my study in the United States. It is impossible to mention them
all. The lovely congregation of Norman Korean Baptist Church in Oklahoma supported and
prayed of me. Their prayers helped sustain me through the tough courses in this program. Special
thanks go out to the dear brothers and sisters of Everlove Baptist Church in Daejeon where I am
serving as pastor. They provided sacrificial financial support and strong spiritual prayer support.
Without their sacrificial assistance, this dissertation would never have been finished. The
memory of their loving sacrifice will never lose its indelible mark on my heart.
