Finding the Starting Number
Find the starting number by working backwards when the final number and
the changes in each step is shown.
Give and Take
When an object is exchanged multiple times, work backwards from the end
result.
A boy gave a girl 2 flowers, so the
number of flowers the boy has
decreases by 2, and the number of
flowers the girl has increases by 2.
After the exchange, when the boy
has A flowers and the girl has B
flowers, the number of flowers the
boy originally had was (A+2), and
the number of flowers the girl
originally had was (B-2).
