H undreds of years ago, people thought the sun
traveled around the Earth. But a few people believed
differently. In the 16th century, Copernicus thought the sun
was at the center of the universe. And he said that the Earth
traveled around the sun. However, many people didn’t like
this idea. They thought it was against their religion. But an
Italian scientist, Galileo, believed Copernicus was right. Galileo
showed that the Earth was moving. And he wrote a book about his
study. But the Pope punished him for writing about his study. The Pope told
Galileo not to leave his house for the rest of his life. And Galileo had to give
up his work. But today, we know Copernicus and Galileo were right!
