P. 105
Unit 1 READING 2
Child: Mom, I was wondering about something.
Mom: What is it, dear?
Child: Well, when I see people in desert countries
on TV, they are all wearing lots of clothes.
But it’s really hot in the desert! Shouldn’t
they wear less clothing to cool down?
Mom: Well, that might be a good idea in our
country. But there is a lot of sunlight in the
desert. So, people there should cover their
entire body. Or they will get burned and sick very easily.
Child: But don’t all those clothes make them hot?
Mom: Not as much as you think. The clothes cover their bodies, and there is
space between the skin and cloth for air to flow. This cools down
people in the desert.
