Hyenas are the natural enemies of lions. Hyenas and lions must compete for
food. Considering that it is bigger and stronger, you might think that a lion would
easily beat a hyena, but it is not that simple. Male lions live alone, but hyenas
are pack animals. They hunt and fight in teams and therefore have the
advantage of numbers. Hyenas are also very clever. They often wait for a lion to
kill an animal and then steal the animal from the lion. While the lion is fighting
some of the hyenas, the others steal the food.
