Activity 3 Coordinate Plane and Ordered Pairs
Learn about the coordinate plane and ordered pairs.
An ordered pair is a pair of numbers that can be used to locate a
point on the coordinate plane.
Coordinates on a plane can be represented by 2 straight lines that are
perpendicular to each other from origin O. The horizontal line is called the
x-axis, and the vertical line is called the y-axis. The 2 axes are called the
axes of coordinates.
A plane that can locate any points with coordinates is called the coordinate
plane.
The ordered pair (a, b) shows the coordinates of point P. Point P is written as
P(4, 3). 4 is called the x-coordinate, and 3 is called the y-coordinate.
