 Looking Back
THE BROADMOOR
A Summer Success Story Thank You FDCC! by Casey, Chrissy, Brennan, and Hadley Stansbury – Convention Chairs
Two years ago, the Broadmoor was selected as the 2023 Annual Meeting location. As many of
you know, the Broadmoor holds a special place in the hearts of the FDCC. And, once again, it did not disappoint.
The Convention Team consisting of Marissa Trasatti, Martha and Bernie Heinze, Howard Merten and Roni Dash, along with the Stansbury family, worked relentlessly to make this meeting special for all who attended. It was an amazing week. The secret sauce of the FDCC is
the relationships we build, not just professionally, but as people, as friends, as families. We started with that premise in mind and it drove everything we did. We knew the Broadmoor and Colorado Springs would attract large numbers of families and children. We were surprised by how many. There were over 100 children at the Broadmoor! Our members and families enjoying time with each other at summer events is how we were founded and we tried to get back to our roots.
Likely, your first memory of the Broadmoor, and certainly one
that will stick with us, is the room block (negotiated during COVID) filling up just three weeks after registration opened. Despite that, this Annual Meeting had more total attendees, more defense counsel
members, more children and more Corporate and Industry members than the last four Annual Meetings, including two pre-Covid meetings. That all of this happened is a credit to the Broadmoor, the efforts of
the Convention Team, and the patience and understanding of our members. Thank you all.
We could go on forever about all the things we loved about this Convention. Instead, we thought we would share some of your feedback, because it is what you all think about these meetings that really matter.
Our first main event was the Midway Party, an event meant to capture the home-spun fun
of a local fair. There were rides and games and carnival food and bouncy houses for the little ones. Here’s some of the kind words shared by you about that event:
• “The whole family enjoyed the food and fun. Great event! Plenty of room to spread out and talk indoors or outdoors.”
• “Our kids loved this.”
• “Loved the dunk tank – a very fun
way to raise money for a great cause. It captured the interest of members, spouses and especially the kids.”
• “Food was fun and delicious. Kids loved the games. Lots of energy and excitement in the room. LOVED the dunk tank. So much fun and it was refreshing to see our leaders let their hair down and not take themselves so seriously. Also great to see so much money raised for diversity scholarship.”
• “Loved this casual event.”
• “I loved this event. Lots of fun, very
creative theme.”
We agree -- it was an amazing event. The Convention Team had to make a quick decision to bring the party inside. The Broadmoor staff made it happen and the party took off.
The next night was just as special. Not only is the Broadmoor amazing, but so is the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. So we took it over for a unique and very popular dine-around option. While others
