The Seattle World’s Fair opened on April 21, 1962 and ran until October 21st of that year. We come to Seattle sixty years later for our Annual Meeting. That, to me,
to make your visit spectacular and unforgettable.
Some brief family history. I was born and raised in Spokane in Eastern Washington. My folks had family friends that lived in Seattle and we started coming over when I was really young. The World’s Fair visit in the summer of 1962 changed my life forever. I decided that week, at the ripe age of 6 1⁄2, that I was going to move to Seattle and attend the University of Washington.
Eleven years later I did just
that. Erin and I have lived in the Magnolia neighborhood of Seattle since we married 40 years ago. Two of our three kids live within blocks of our home (Laura, our youngest,
is a really big deal and I am so proud to be President of this wonderful organization, ending my year in this position in the city that has shaped my life and the lives of my family members in so many extraordinary ways. This is a first time in our 86 years as an organization that the Annual Meeting will be held in the home town of the President and the First Lady. We welcome you to our city and, along with Heidi Goebel and Amy Miletich, will do all we can
lives in Melbourne, Australia, so she throws off the average). All four of our grandkids live here as well.
