Deposition Drills How to Teach Deposition Skills
  How Deposition Skills Are Learned
The best way to learn a skill is to do it. Of course cutting your teeth by taking lots of depositions, and making mistakes along the way may have been the way past generations learned, but today, this is far from ideal. The preferred method is to perform drills and exercises with young lawyers, where you role play with them and provide them feedback on how they did. Trying to replicate what happens in depositions through exercises, and using those exercises to teach specific skills decreases the learning curve and increases the speed with which skills are learned.
How to Teach Deposition Skills
This book will walk you through exercises for most every skill set necessary to take and defend depositions. It will provide you the purpose of each exercise, how to conduct it and questions to ask after doing it. The hope is that this interactive, hands on approach will provide young lawyers insight on not only what to do, but why to do it, and how to do it better. The exercises are simple, direct and easy to do and each teaches a discrete deposition skill. It is entirely up to you which exercises to use, what order to use them and how to incorporate them into any existing associate training program you may have. Consider this book another tool in your tool box of teaching deposition skills to your team.
