 FUNCTION
The function of my product is to protect lifeguards and nippers from the harmful rays of the sun, I want to drastically improve the current patrol cap design to be more usable, protective, comfortable, quick drying and include tech features to help improve the lives of patrolling members. I want to explore using UV detectors so that the user can judge how harmful the suns rays are. Other design features are a completely foldable cap that can fold into the users pocket for space saving storage as well as looking at detachable sections such as the bill and neck flap, I also want to add a clasp instead of the current string tie design which easily comes undone. The cap needs to have ear protection built into the sides, with mesh panels, so the users hearing is not inhibited.
AESTHETICS
My goal is to design a cap that will be
aesthetically pleasing, hopefully even ‘cool’, so that patrolling members will want to wear my design. My design needs to appeal to my target market so they want to wear my design.
For my design I will be using the traditional colours of red and yellow to still keep its purpose of being able to identify patrol members in the water with also new uses such as sun protection and sight protection.
HOW AND WHO?
I will test the functionality by interviewing the target market whilst formulating my design. Then I will consult the target market during the design process,to see how I can improve my cap but also to see if its effective and is doing its job. As well as consulting SLSA on their opinion on the success of the design and likelihood of it being utilised for SLSA.
HOW AND WHO?
I will use the opinions of fellow patrollers and high ranked people within my club house to identify if my cap is more aesthetically pleasing and the target market can see themselves using it.
