Unit (6): Evaluating numerical expression and patterns
First: Ordering of mathematical operation
1. First do the operation inside parentheses and
brackets
2. Then multiply and divide in order from left to right
3. Finally add and subtract in order from left to right
Example : use order operations to evaluate
55 ÷ ( 2 + 9 ) – 5
= 55 ÷11- 5 addition inside parentheses
=5–5 division
= 0 subtraction
Second : a rule can be used to describe a pattern
3 , 6 , 9 , 12 ……, ……..
The rule is add 3
To find the missing number , add 3
12 + 3 = 15 so the missing number is 15
The rule x + 3
