Can you believe we’re only less than a month away from 2022? This year has been filled with all the ups, all the downs, and everything in between. So many of us have taken 2021 to learn to navigate in a world rocked by COVID-19 as we re-adjust to day-to-day living. Long story short: this year has been exhausting. But while it has been tiring, it’s also been full of hope. Hope that good things are coming. And to create some pos- itive experiences in the world, we need to start with taking care of ourselves first. So let’s talk about new year’s resolutions, shall we?
I’m not talking about the ste- reotypical going to the gym more or eating healthier. While those are ex- cellent resolutions to have, I think it’s time to make our resolutions
a little deeper. Our new endeav- ors in 2021 should be filled with things and experiences that help us focus on a happier and com- fortable lifestyle. After all, we have been living through a pan- demic, taking some time to work on ourselves is necessary. So I’ve compiled a list of new year’s res- olutions that focus on working on ourselves and shifting the focus to creating a happier lifestyle.
Do one thing every day that brings you joy. This can be any- thing exclusive to you! Cooking a new meal, going for a hike, call- ing a friend to chat. Whatever it is, make sure it puts a smile on your face.
Try a new hobby or activity once a month. We’re all curious to learn new skills and try some- thing new from time to time. What if you set some time once a month, even if it’s just for a day,
to try something new? Take a ka- rate class, try a new restaurant, go to a paint night, just try some- thing you’ve always been telling yourself you’d get to one day!
Give one compliment a day. A friend, a family member, a co- worker, someone in the grocery store; it can be anyone! Brighten- ing people’s days will undoubt- edly put a smile on your face,
making for a brighter day.
Focus on independence. Try doing more things on your own, like taking yourself out to dinner or going to see a movie by your- self. After all, you spend the most time with just yourself; you might
as well make yourself happy! Independence brings me to my next one, which is invest- ing. And I don’t mean money (Although investing money is a good idea too). I’m talking about investing in yourself. Don’t deny yourself things or experiences. Sometimes, it is a good idea to splurge a little on that nice jacket or those cute pairs of shoes. But also, investing in yourself doesn’t mean just buying yourself nice things, but also saying yes to new
experiences and people.
Work on taking action when
it’s needed. Listen to your mind
and body when it’s time to make a change. Are you feeling a little trapped working from home? Try out a new coffee shop to work for a change of scenery. Is something bothering you at work? Try to see if there is a solution that can help actively.
All in all, 2022 is quickly ap- proaching, and we should all make it the year where we work on bettering ourselves in one way or another. Next year, I want to do the best that I can in all as- pects of life, including working on myself. And that’s all we can really do—our best.
We’d love to hear about your resolutions as well, so be sure to send them over to lakelife@new- foundimpressions.com! Happy New Year, everybody! Here’s to a safe and happy 2022.
