In the past the store has col- lected nonperishable food items for designated families and se- niors, hosted a giving tree hung with Christmas wishes from local children and even invited the kids to the store for cookies and a chat with Santa a few days be- fore Christmas. For the first time, those activities have been called off and all monetary donations they receive will be presented to a local nonprofit organization.
“A lot of groups around here have suffered through this virus and had to cancel all their fund- raising activities, so we thought it would be nice to help one or two of them this year instead,” said Kerouac. “We haven’t given up on the community. We just had to change how we’re doing things this year.”
She and her volunteers had considered donating the money to the state food bank but found that they were quite well stocked. Clothing donations are not being accepted at this time in most places and Tapply-Thompson Community Center had already organized a coat drive through “Operation Warm.” So, the team decided to help a local organiza- tion that has been struggling to survive during the pandemic; which nonprofit endeavor that will be is to be determined by the community.
“Who would you want us to donate to? There’s a lot of local groups being overlooked this year who are in need of financial as- sistance in order to keep going,” Kerouac said.

BRIDGEWATER – Like many other activities in 2020, the 34th annual Bridgewater Turkey Trot, which raises money to help local families in need each year, had to be cancelled but fund- raising is still underway as Holly Kerouac and her crew at New- found Country Store continue their commitment to help others.
“We did a virtual Turkey Trot this year where people could drop off donations then walk the course on their own,” Kerouac said.
People have been generous in their giving and as the donations continue to come, she said that besides the virtual Thanksgiving Day “trot” there are a few other changes this year.

The Bridgewater Mountain Snowmobile Club has been in the planning stages of this trail reroute for several years. It became a success as a result of these landowners (we like to refer to them as "land heroes"!): Dolben, Torsey, and Seager families. Additionally, The Bureau of Trails, Barnard Surveying, Ryan Willey Logging, and our very own BMSC volunteers teamed up together to complete the job this fall.
