says it’s going to be hard for him to step away from all of it. But not only did Skip get to turn his passion into a business, but he also got to work alongside his family while doing so. “That’s what it is. A family store,” says John Williamson, Sue’s husband. At the end of the day, Skip gets to sit down for dinner with his family, the very people he worked with that whole day. How many people can say they can do that? That close bond with family is, at the very most, the heart of Skip’s Sport Shop. It’s no wonder that Skip has had dedicated followers for sixty-two years. When a fam- ily-owned business goes out of their way to make each and every customer feel like they’re part of that family, a warm feeling takes over. The town of Bristol will miss everything that Skip’s Sport Shop was, but they will always have the memories of a place that felt like home.

hunting gear, archery gear, and more. If someone was looking for a new or used firearm, they could find it at Skip’s shop. Skip’s solid reputation for quality products, responsible prices, and knowl- edgeable staff have people driv- ing from different parts of New Hampshire just to get what they need. With such serious merchan- dise, it’s vital to have helpful and educated employees about what they are selling. Once custom- ers walk into Skip’s, the friendly employees make it a point to address them, instantly putting their nerves at ease. The fami- ly-oriented staff takes the time to make sure their customers leave 100% satisfied and confident with their purchase. That is the type of business worth coming back to. With New Hampshire being a massive hunting and
archery scene, customers could find whatever they were looking for in the family-run shop. Skip runs his shop alongside his fam- ily, really playing into that “family-motivated” detail that draws in so many wonderful customers.
“My favorite thing
about working in the shop
is the relationships we’ve built,” says Sue. “We have generations of people coming through the shop,
and that’s what’s going to
be the hardest part—not seeing everyone’s faces
every day,” Williamson states. The family keeps such close ties with their customers that they’re not even seen as customers at all, more like part of the family. With the family having three genera- tions of members working in the shop, they capture the attention
vironment.
It’s hard to come
across a successful fam- ily-owned business, but Skip’s Sport Shop would fall under that category. But Skip’s doesn’t just have success with their quality merchandise; they also have success with the people. Too many businesses are only concerned with the profits, but not Skip’s. Skip’s is the type of es- tablishment that puts its customers first. It’s the type of place that feels
like going to see a friend instead of making a purchase. When people can walk into a business without it feeling like an actual business, well, that place is doing something right.
It’s an absolute dream to be able to turn your hobby into a genuine business. All of this started with Rielly’s passion for gunsmithing, and Williamson

Skip’s shop is the type of place where patrons can come in and have an easy-going conversation with the employees, making it the perfect friendly en-
