Lake Water Quality Monitor
Purpose: Lake Water Quality sites represent isolated sub-basins of the lake and closely tie to the nearby tributaries and human uses. Once pollutants are in the lake, they pose a greater risk to human safety, fish populations and even property values. Water Quality monitors collect water quality samples and process them at home. Read the full position description and email Program Manager Andrew Veilleux at An- drew@NewfoundLake.org for more information and to sign up. Email Program Manager Andrew Veilleux at Andrew@ NewfoundLake.org for more in- formation and to sign up.
Tributary Water Quality Monitor
Purpose: Tributary Water Quality monitoring informs local conservation efforts and identifies potential pollution sources. These data give clues about the effects of nearby land uses like develop- ment and roads. Water Quality monitors collect water quality samples with some processing necessary at home. Email Pro- gram Manager Andrew Veilleux at Andrew@NewfoundLake. org for more information and to sign up.
Nature Station Program Volunteer
Nature Station Program Vol- unteers represent NLRA at New- found Nature Station and act as a resource for participating youth and families to ensure they have an engaging, educational, and fun-filled time! Program volun- teers help participants connect with the beauty of the natural world around them, promoting conservation and good steward- ship of our natural resources and growing the next generation of conservationists. Lake Host
NH Lake Hosts have been
protecting New Hampshire’s
lakes from invasive species since
2002, and have stopped around
1,600 invasive fragments from
entering lakes and rivers. At
Newfound Lake, Lake Hosts
have manned the Wellington
State Park boat ramp since 2006,
and have prevented 28 fragments
of invasive plants—including
milfoil—from being launched
into the pristine waters of New-
found Lake. While inspecting
boats for plant fragments, Lake
Hosts also collect important data
Weed Watchers
Purpose: While it is import- ant to prevent the introduction of invasive plants, early identi- fication of established invasive plants in the lake is the next line of defense. An established col- ony of an invasive species can be almost impossible to eradicate, but if caught early the chances are better. Weed watchers are trained to monitor all shoreline plant growth and identify inva- sive plant colonies. Email Pro- gram Manager Andrew Veilleux at Andrew@NewfoundLake. org for more information and to sign up.
Volunteer Photographers
Volunteer photographers document NLRA’s work and the watershed at large through photography, helping NLRA communicate our efforts and the beauty of Newfound with our community. Photos are sub- mitted to NLRA to be shared in NLRA publications and content.
