Who doesn’t love a good ol’ sticky bun? What we don’t love is the feeling of those sweet calo- ries lingering after our delectable
treat. However, life is all about balance, and Audrey Goudie and Garlyn Manganiello had the perfect idea to balance out those sticky buns with some good old-fashioned running. Goudie
and Manganiello hatched a bril- liant plan to start a road race that stood out to the community seven years ago. With the two women’s love for running mixed with their desire to host an event
with savory food, Run Your Buns Off came to life!
With the first race starting in 2009, the event has grown so much over the past twelve years. Run Your Buns Off is a wonderful event that brings the community together while fundraising for local non-profits. The event gained quite a bit of traction over the years that RYBO became a 501(c)3 nonprofit to continue assisting local causes called the Newfound Area Charitable Fund. Since the race started in 2009, RYBO has proudly distributed $101,050 back to the Newfound community. This year, the race will be held on Sep- tember 2nd 2023.
The race starts and finishes at Basic Ingredients Bakery and Gift Shop located on Route 3A in Bristol. Runners head north on Route 3A, and turn left onto Whittemore Point Rd. North continuing on the “Whittemore Point Loop” until returning to Route 3A, exiting via Whit- temore Point Rd. South for a
speedy, downhill finish. Individ- uals and teams of all abilities are encouraged to register for this fun race! There must be a minimum of five entrants, and the top three finishers on each team will score towards the team’s time, so pack your best running shoes!
When speaking to Goudie, she let me know that the locals have made this event a staple in the community. Residents of the Newfound area say RYBO is their favorite event of the year. The top three overall males and females and the fastest team who participate in the race receive
