Newfound Sales and Trading Post Celebrates 40 Years
By Brittany amalfi
The Newfound Sales and Trading Post will officially have been open for 40 years this com- ing February. Lester Greenwood and his wife, Rita Greenwood, started their small business in just a tiny little woodshed all those years ago. From there, the Newfound Sales and Trading Post continued to expand and grow until they finally found their place among the Newfound community. And now, the small shop is a staple in this wonderful community.
Deemed the “Small Mart” by the locals in town, this one-stop shop has everything people need for hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, and more. In addition, they carry quality general mer- chandise, so their clients know they will be well taken care of
when they stop in for what they need. It’s no doubt that this small business is a staple in the com- munity with everything they do. From sponsoring different events like the Alexandria Volunteer Fire Department’s Newfound Lake Ice Fishing Derby for at least 20 years to doing boat reg- istrations, the Greenwoods have
gone above and beyond to sup- port their community.
Lester had nothing but good things to say when asked about running the Newfound Sales and
Trading Post in the Newfound region. “We want to thank the community for always being so supportive of us. There’s a rea- son we’ve been here for 40 years; we definitely like it!” Being in business for 40 years definitely warrants some long-term rela- tionships with clients, and that’s absolutely the case for the Green- woods. “We have a lot of genera- tions of clients coming in,” Lester tells me. “A lot of people grew up coming into this store with their parents, and now those same kids are coming in with their babies.” People just know when a store is more than just a store. When people come into a small busi-
ness and leave feeling like they’ve made a friend is what makes a business authentic. Lester tells me that he “could never picture doing anything else.” Walking into Newfound Sales and Trad- ing Post is like entering a warm and friendly environment, and the bonus perk is, of course, Pea- nut! “People come in and ask for Peanut all the time. Everyone loves Peanut, and Peanut sure does love everyone!” So make sure to stop into the Newfound Sales and Trading Post for all your outdoor and sporting needs. And make sure to say hello to Peanut while you’re in there!
