Bristol Police Lieutenant Kris- topher (Kris) Bean is one of the more recognizable faces on the department, having been born and raised in the community and dedicating much of his life to car- ing for families, children, and local organizations.
Bean is a 2004 graduate of Newfound Regional High School, where he was already planning to serve his community somehow after graduation. When the 9-11 tragedy struck the nation in 2001, he felt his first real call to duty.
“My whole life, I think I was interested in serving [the commu- nity], but after 9-11, that made me look more into fire fighting,” Bean said. So in the spring of 2002, he decided to join the Bris- tol Fire Department as an intern. Two years later, when he gradu- ated high school, he became a Call Fire Fighter and enrolled in the Fire Science program in the vocational/technical college in Laconia.
Bean said that while he was in- terested in a career in fire fighting, the EMT aspect didn’t quite suit him as well, so when he learned there was an opening on the Bris- tol Police Department, he threw his hat into the ring. “My whole life, I’ve been interested in doing

some may not know about the lieutenant, though, is that he was quite a ballplayer in his younger days. Bean generally played cen- ter field but occasionally stepped onto the mound as their “lefty” pitcher. A true team player, he was awarded Newfound Regional High School’s prestigious George Pabst Award in both his junior and senior years in school. “It was given to a member of the team who worked hard and did what- ever was needed out on the field,” he said. Many who know him would agree that that team spirit and work ethic is something that has carried on into his adulthood.
As for his future goals, Bean said he has no plans to leave the community he loves. Instead, he looks forward to raising his boys in Newfound, just as he was, and hopes to finish his law enforce- ment career in his hometown. “I love what I do, and I’m not going anywhere. The only way I’d ever get done (at Bristol Police Depart- ment) is if I decide someday to go into something else,” he said.

something like this, and so I de- cided to apply to the police de- partment. Unfortunately, about 15 others were going for the job, and fortunately, they hired me,” said Bean. It turned out to be a life-changing event.
Since joining BPD in 2007, Lt. Bean has devoted his time to the community in more ways than one. Rising over the years to the rank of lieutenant he said, that as
a third-generation member of the community, he loves where he lives and is glad to call it home. But, as an officer, he also loves seeing others enjoying all that Newfound Lake and the surrounding area has to offer. “I love the change of seasons and the change in activ- ities that go on here. Of course, all of that changes my job, too, and that keeps it interesting,” said Bean.

Yet, while he stays busy with all the duties those activities and job duties require, he still finds time to enjoy his passion for sports during his time off. Married to Tandra Bean and a father of two boys, Jake and Karter, Bean says baseball is his greatest interest. He has recently been coaching his younger son’s Little League Team, but before that, he also coached his oldest son all the way through the Babe Ruth League. In addition, Bean has served as president of the local Babe Ruth league, coached basketball at Tapply-Thompson Commu- nity Center, and even coached youth soccer on occasions when they needed someone to step in. When not on the ball field or basketball court, he and his boys spend time riding dirt bikes with his dad on their family’s property in Alexandria. They also spend time together snowmobiling and ice fishing in the winter months. “When I’m off duty, I really enjoy spending time with my family. Pretty much everything revolves around them,” said Bean. What
