31. According to this news item.. a. IN the latest attack by
November XVII, Europe's deadiest terrorist group, two gunmen shot
and killed Britain's defense attaché to Athens, Brigadier General
Stephan Saunders, as he was driving to work in early rush-hour
traffic along Athens busiest boulevards. In its proclamation, the
Marxist-Leninist group said it targeted the 53 year old military
officer because he "actively took part in organizing bombing
raids against Yugoslavia" last year. Months before the attack,
British intelligence had provided a list of terrorists to Greek
police, but no arrests followed. The attack increased
international calls for Greece, host nation to the 2004 Olympics,
to bolster its fight against terrorism and its tracking of

Yesterday afternoon the LDK political party conducted a rally in the
Culture Center in Vashturi. An estimated 1,000 people attended the rally.
Since word had been received of the presence of a possible explosive
device in the Culture Club, the meeting was moved outside the building.
KFOR Explosive Ordnance Disposal experts searched the Center but did not
find any explosive devices. No incidents were reported in connection with
the rally.
