Sparks to Wake Up Your Life!
            Yvonne Phillips FSII

Most all of you have heard of the words-Feng Shui! What exactly do they mean? The American inter-
pretation is Wind & Water. If you think of the vision of standing on a beach with the surf rolling back
and forth and the wind blowing at your face, that is good Feng Shui. The reason why this is good Feng
Shui is that you feel great! You are almost in the perfect balance of nature. Can it get any better than
that? All the elements associated with this philosophy, fire (the hot sun & sand) Water, Earth (sand) and
drift wood and metal (the boats & ships passing by) create this good feeling for you.

Let’s take it a step further and add these elements to your home. The room with all the elements present
for us already, is the kitchen. In that space, it already has the sparks of life to challenge you!

            • Water-free flowing at our sinks
            • Fire-ranges, microwaves
            • Metal-all appliances
            • Wood-cabinetry
            • Earth-plants

Think about the gathering spaces in your home. They usually are associated with food and a place to set
down and enjoy the atmosphere. It is usually this space that garners all our attention. If you are invited
to someone else’s home, most often, you head to where all the wonderful smells are in the kitchen. The
chef either welcomes you in or sends you out of his or her space!

Living Rooms, the sparks for this room depend on what you would like to have the space reflect. What
happens in this area? Is this the wind down area after a long day’s work? Then infuse peace and harmo-
ny by adding soft colors on the wall. Place décor that reminds you to calm down and just relax. The area
could have a water fountain with soft flowing water. You can accomplish this with either a small fountain
or even a wall mounted fountain. The key is to have it always flowing gently. Your furniture should
reflect you and your comfort. If the opportunity arises for new furniture, look for soft rounded edges on
any tables that are within the space. Look for patterned fabrics for the throws and pillows that feel good
and support you while you relax.
