Remember, the process of implementing enhancements in dining is budget neutral, yet extra seconds and minutes are essential for meeting individual resident needs and preferences. This extra help comes from...
Interdisciplinary – “All hands on deck” dining is becoming increasingly common
in long term care. No one in the facility eats or takes his/her lunch break while
the residents are eating unless eating and socializing with residents. This makes all leadership and ancillary department staff an available pool of workers to assist in
the set-up and meal service to residents. Even if they are not participating in the act of eating, these staff will find satisfaction in sharing dining through a hostess role; greeting residents, assisting residents to the dining room, serving, setting up, or encouraging residents to eat. The extra socialization and encouragement, plus offers to get an alternate or to pour an extra cup of coffee makes all the difference between institutional food service and enhancing the residents dining experience.
