A transformational leader sees past what is to what should be. This vision is the cornerstone for all actions and is the binding force with other leaders. On a smaller scale, the leader brings a fresh view to each new situation, leaving what was previously known and prejudices behind.
With these new eyes, examine the way things are done in your organization. Look around and make a list of “things that don’t make sense,” such as:

• No salt and pepper shakers or sugar packets on the tables.
• Lists of who gets to take his or her bath when.
• Lists of when to get people up starting at 5:30 a.m.
• Putting residents to bed at 6:30 p.m.
• Waking people up every two hours to turn them.
• Turning the facility into a prison out of fear of elopement.
