Common Sense Assessing and Care Planning (cont’d)
Discovering the Person (a.k.a. Assessment) What kind of assessment does your
household use? Most activity and social needs assessments can leave you asking, “But who is she?” Does your household assess residents’ personalities to determine who is a loner, joiner or social butterfly? Do you discover how each one prefers to participate in family and household life, the larger community within the nursing home and the community at large? These are good things to know about a person.
Get to Know Householders Beyond Care Needs
Share the task and joy of conducting activity assessments. Learning about residents’ activity interests, individual passions, skills and talents helps staff get to know them as people beyond their care needs. At the very least, share
what is learned about a person through the assessment process.
