Educate, Expose and Ignite
Educate at every opportunity. Leave helpful information on break room tables. Hang posters announcing creative ideas. At staff meetings, share activity ideas and tips on
how to engage residents. Think of activities, interventions and other approaches that correspond with residents’ personal goals and caregivers’ objectives for attaining the highest practicable level of well-being for their elders. Talk it up, be contagious with enthusiasm, find what motivates and ignites your teammates.
Orientation
Obviously, leadership must orient staff to their responsibilities regarding resident activities, especially those caregivers formally charged with activity planning and coordination. Even staff not formally charged with those duties
is obliged, and privileged, to support resident activity interests.
Staff Learning Circle Question
How does our orientation process spell out the expectations for staff in all positions to promote and support resident activity interests?
How can we improve our orientation process in the house so all new staff members clearly understand their obligation and opportunity to participate in and lead activities in the house?
