Wellness – Appreciative Inquiry
We spend a lot of time focusing on what is not going well with elders and what they
can’t do. And so, often, this is all we see. But there is also much that is going well and when we focus on that, suddenly more is possible and what is going well outshines what isn’t. When you focus on the positives of a person’s capabilities or even of a situation or a team’s resources, it is called “appreciative inquiry.” We ask, “What’s going well?” or “What have we got going for us?” This is an excellent way to approach care planning as well as setting the tone for the day.
