Watch Out for “Turfdom”
Some household coordinators may not welcome input from professional leads and other staff, who, for their part, may not feel comfortable giving it.
What Works Well - Gentle Leading
Household coordinators and other leaders might consider posing a question as their initial approach to gain an “in” and resolve issues:
• “Is there anything I can do for you?”
• “Do you need activity ideas? Help with
behavior/end-of-life/family issues?”
• “How can I help?” rather than “Here’s
what you need to do.”
• “I heard a little bit about...can you tell
me more?”
Staff Learning Circle Questions
If willing, the respective professional leads could partake in a learning circle with each household’s staff to ask what is going well and what could be better.
“How can I help?”
“How can we grow in this area?”
