personal item such as a package, purse, handbag, backpack, nor be subject to a search of their person; however, failure to comply with a request to search an associate's Personal Property (other than their physical person) may be considered insubordinate conduct and could result in: (1) disciplinary action up to and including termination, even for a first offense; and/or (2) the location contacting local law enforcement authorities. Under no circumstances will force be used in seeking compliance with a request to conduct a search or inspection of Company Property or Personal Property and any search or inspection will be limited to the purpose for which it was initiated. Similarly, no associate should be physically touched in any way, blocked or restrained against their will, or prevented from leaving the area as part of a search or inspection.
PERSONAL APPEARANCE/UNIFORMS
The Piper strives to present a professional image to visitors, residents, family members and the public. As such, the Company expects that all associates will dress in a manner consistent with good hygiene, safety, and professional standards. Associates are expected to report to work well-groomed, clean smelling, and dressed in clean, neat, and appropriately fitting clothing or their standard uniform. Certain associates may be required to comply with additional grooming and hygiene standards as set forth below. Every leader, coach and manager is responsible for ensuring compliance with this policy. The ultimate decision as to whether an associate’s attire and/or personal grooming are consistent with or in violation of this policy rests solely in the discretion of the Company. Associates who report to work dressed inappropriately may be asked to leave the location and return to work in acceptable attire. Time away from work for this reason will not be paid. Failure to comply with this policy may result in disciplinary action.
Appropriate Dress and Hygiene
All associates will report to work appropriately dressed, neat, clean and well groomed. Associates will wear clean, neat, clothing appropriate to the setting where the work is performed, or, where required, a uniform. Where required, the uniform must be clean, in good condition and free of wrinkles. Only authorized uniform apparel may be worn. Appropriate safety items such as closed toe shoes and non-slip shoe soles may be required for safety reasons (clogs with back strap or closed back are acceptable). Associates will be informed by their team leader of any applicable departmental guidelines regarding appropriate dress.
Name badges
Name badges will be issued to all associates and must be worn at all times while on duty. If a name badge is lost, stolen or damaged, the associate will be responsible for the cost to replace it. Replacement of name badges because of normal wear and tear or due to a name badge deficiency will be the responsibility of the Company location. Identification badges are required for all associates in locations using automated time- keeping systems. The name badge must be clipped to the associate’s clothing so others can easily see the name badge.
Inappropriate Dress/Appearance
There following types or articles of clothing are not considered acceptable in the workplace, regardless of the associate’s job title:
o Hats or bandanas worn as head coverings, except where the hat may be designated by the facility as part of the uniform or for safety reasons or where the associate’s reasonably held religious beliefs require him or her to wear a head covering and only then if such garb does not interfere or jeopardize the safety of residents or staff. If any associate feels that his or her religious beliefs require an exemption from this dress standard, he or she should bring the issue to the attention of his/her team leader.
o Dresses or skirts that are tight fitting or that fall more than two inches above the knee.
o Revealing or provocative clothing including tops that reveal one’s chest, tank tops, or tops that reveal
one’s midsection.
