Nursing Research I

                                Module 6: The Design and Planning Phase

               Introduction

                       Design refers to the plan, structure, and strategy of
               investigation so conceived as to obtain answer to research
               questions or problems. It is the complete scheme or program of
               the research. It includes an outline of what the investigator
               will do from writing the hypothesis and their operational
               implications to the final analysis of data.

               Learning Outcome

                       At the end of the module, the student will be able to
               plan the methodology for their research study.

               Research Design

                       It is the researcher's plan of how the study will
               conducted, the type of data that will be collected, the
               techniques or the means to be used to obtain these data, the
               reasons for the choice of the subjects, the manner of determining
               sample size, the instruments to be used and their validation,
               and the data analysis scheme which includes the application of
               the statistical tools for treatment of data arising from the
               study. These are determined after variables are identified and
               quantified.

               Selecting a Research Design

                   1. Logically sound;
                   2. Comprehensive enough to solve the problem;

                                                                                                       40
