I.4. The curricular content is responsive to the needs of the country and recent
developments in the profession
Among the most pressing needs of the country are social issues, climate
change, and the innovations in the nursing profession.
The year 2015 to 2020 was the time where there was an oversupply of
nurses. During those periods, nurses are opting to work overseas or enter a career
which are not related to nursing at all. One more problem during this time is the
problem of not implementing the right salary grade for nurses. Nurses in the
Philippines are not paid competently. With the introduction of the subject
Entrepreneurial Management, our students are opened with the possibility to open
their business while working in the profession, or work as an entrepreneur full time
With Technological Innovations, Hospitals are now incorporating digital
infrastructure in their delivery of care, recording and reporting and communication
with different parts of the health team. Digital advancement also helps researchers
to gather data in their selected fields. The curriculum prepares students in these
issues by taking up Nursing Informatics and Living in the IT Era
Climate change makes the weather unpredictable. The last years were
marked by devastating typhoons destroying properties and lives of people. We
experienced here in region 2 one of the worst floods with the typhoon Pablo. These
experience made us realize the need to equip the students with the needed
knowledge and skills to become resilient in the middle of theses disasters. These are
accomplished with the subjects, Disaster Nursing, Climate Change and Disaster Risk
Management, and Environmental Science.
A new field of nursing gives attention to the welfare of the aging
population. Our students are equipped with the knowledge and skills on taking care
of the older people with the subject Care of the Older Adult.
The idea of “glocalization” puts us in a position where we become citizens
of the world. This is also the reason why the K-12 curriculum was offered, to make us
synchronize with international educational systems for us to become acceptable in
the event that our students desire to seek employment overseas. With this change in
point of view, our students are expected to interact with diverse nationality and
culture. Our students are prepared for this scene with the subject, Decent Work
Employment and Transcultural Nursing.
