The formal caution - old and new:
‘Do you wish to say anything? You are not obliged to say anything unless you
wish to do so but whatever you say will be taken down in writing and may be
given in evidence.’
‘You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not
mention when questioned something you later rely on in court. Anything you
do say may be given in evidence’.
The Oath taken at Court before giving evidence:
‘I swear by Almighty God that the evidence I shall give will be the truth, the
whole truth, and nothing but the truth’.
Sport
Active involvement in sport during the ten weeks was encouraged by all.
Facilities included a good Gym and a swimming pool, with volleyball courts
that were always in use. I loved volleyball and would jump at the chance to
get on court whenever I could.
We were taught basic self defence by a former army Physical Training
Instructor and we also had to pass a first aid examination after a series of
lessons that included life-saving, recovery positioning and clearing blocked
airways. Page58
