Arizona Society to Present
JROTC Award at November
BOM in Casa Grande
By Robert Hoover, Chairman Arizona SAR JROTC
The Arizona Society shall present the State winner of Outstanding Cadet contest the Sons of the American Revolution JROTC Medallion
and cash award on November 20th during our state meeting.
Cadet Peyton Pierce is from Higley High School Air Force JROTC in Gilbert (Palo Verde Chapter). Cadet Pierce exemplified herself in a manner above and beyond the call of duty, clearly presenting the most competitive nomination package. Her uncompromising personal values, integrity and ethics clearly came through in her essay and in her
nomination documents from Cadre and her School Principal. Cadet Pierce's nomination package took 5th place
nationally demonstrating how excellent this cadet truly is.
Nearly as competitive as our first place winner, Tucson Chapter's entry by Cadet Bianca Gonzalez-Guitierrez of Sahuarita High School Naval JROTC Program. Cadet Gonzalez exemplified herself demonstrating her excellence and moral commitments to community, school and family thus taking the 2nd place award for Arizona Society.
In additional to her Silver Outstanding Cadet Medallion on November 20th, Cadet Pierce will receive a check from Arizona Society for $750 and another check from National Society for $250 for her 5th place National win. Cadet Bianca shall receive a check of $500 from Arizona Society and Tucson Chapter will award
her with the Bronze Outstanding Cadet Medallion and a Chapter Cash Award on Sept 25th.
We all wish these cadets the best in their endeavors. Few realize the qualifications demanded in this competition nor understand the level of effort required to participate in this competition. The standards are exceptionally high and exceedingly difficult to meet. To simply qualify to submit a package for evaluation the amount of work required is almost unfathomable. Cadet's must be in the top of their ROTC and High School classes, participate in local and school volunteer projects but also must demonstrate a willingness and talent to lead in these projects. These demonstrations are conducted through volunteer programs, not only in their ROTC class and their high school, but also in their local communities.
We again congratulate these fine Cadets and stand proud knowing youth such as these shall be the leaders of our America in the future.
If you have questions about the ROTC/ JROTC program or Sea Cadet/Civil Air Patrol programs contact Robert Hoover through the Tucson Chapter.
The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) awards the ROTC Medal to foster the principle of the “citizen-soldier,” exemplified by the Minutemen of Revolutionary War days. This award is presented by an SAR Chapter, State-level Society, or the National Society to ROTC or JROTC cadets who are selected for having a high degree of merit with respect to leadership qualities, military bearing, and general excellence. The recipients are selected by the Commanding Officer of the ROTC or JROTC unit, who should be given full latitude in making the selection.
