Past President’s Message Dennis Kavanaugh
Arizona SAR Immediate Past President
Greetings Compatriots! My term serving as
your state president ended on February 13, 2021. It was an eventful year to say the least with unexpected issues occasioned by the severity of
the COVID-19 pandemic. And yet, I am so very proud at how our chapters and
members have risen to meet this challenge by embracing new technology platforms to continue our service to our state and country and to keep our members connected. This has been our Valley Forge, and I am confident that under the leadership of incoming president Bill Baran and incoming vice-president Robert Hoover along with all the state officers, our state society will grow and prosper and be positively engaged in our communities as we celebrate our 125th anniversary year. I am looking forward to seeing you at our anniversary celebration in June of this year!
As we move into 2021 our state finances are stable and transparent, under the able leadership of SAR State Treasurer Brent Miller. Rob Berryman has done a stellar job handling the many duties of SAR State Secretary. I want to thank all the state officers, state committee
chairs and local chapter leaders for their work this past year. Arizona also continues to be well-represented at the national level by past President General Warren Alter, Rocky Mountain VP Steve Miller and trustee Rudy Byrd. We appreciate all the time they have given to SAR.
I welcome all our new SAR members who have joined us in 2020 and encourage you to become active in your chapter, our state society and in our communities.
Let us continue to keep in our minds and hearts our compatriot companions who have passed away this year or who are facing medical challenges. You have a strong support network in your SAR colleagues.
Finally, it has been my honor and privilege to serve you this past year. Thank you!
Dennis Kavanaugh

Goldwater Chapter meeting by Zoom and gave a presentation about ValleyForge that I had made for 5th grade students, and on 19 Dec I was able to place some wreaths on veteran’s graves. In January I attended the Phoenix Chapter annual meeting and installed the new officers and
