Forced to leave their homes because of threats or attacks, by March 1999 the Muslim pop-
ulation of Kosovo started to flee, leaving their villages desolate. Approximately three
months later, when they returned, nothing was the same. Houses burnt and in ruins, rela-
tives lost, children sick and properties plundered... War and migration threw every
Muslim Kosovar's life, rich or poor, into complete disarray.
