Nuclear fusion, just the contrary of fission, is the process of bringing together two
light nuclei to form a heavier nucleus and using the bonding energy thus released. The
nuclei in the stars fuse when they collide. New nuclei are thus formed, and neutrinos,
positrons, neutrons, protons and other sub-atomic particles are released as energy.
The source of the great energy in the stars is these nuclear fusions.
