from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sex-
ual immorality. (Acts, 21:25)
Not to Eat Meat Slaughtered in the
Name of Anything Other Than God
It seemed good... to us not to burden you with anything be-
yond the following requirements: You are to abstain from food
sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled an-
imals and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid
these things. Farewell. (Acts, 15:28-29)
Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from
food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat
of strangled animals and from blood. For Moses has been
preached in every city from the earliest times and is read in the
synagogues on every Sabbath. (Acts, 15:20-21)
As for the Gentile believers, we have written to them our deci-
sion that they should abstain from food sacrificed to idols,
from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sex-
ual immorality. (Acts, 21:25)
Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that we all pos-
sess knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. The
man who thinks he knows something does not yet know as he
ought to know. But the man who loves God is known by God.
So then, about eating food sacrificed to idols: We know that
an idol is nothing at all in the world and that there is no god
but One... [Yet] for us there is but one God... from Whom all
