Pleasant Words from the Gospel
In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you
may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. (1 Peter, 1:6)
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man.
And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond
what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also
provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. (1
Corinthians, 10:13)
if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men
from trials and to hold the unrighteous for the day of judg-
ment, while continuing their punishment. (2 Peter, 2:9)
... We sent Timothy... to strengthen and encourage you in your
faith, so that no one would be unsettled by these trials. You
know quite well that we were destined for them. In fact,
when we were with you, we kept telling you that we would
be persecuted. And it turned out that way, as you well know.
(1 Thessalonians, 3:2-4)
And now, brothers, we want you to know about the grace that
God has given the Macedonian churches. Out of the most se-
vere trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty
welled up in rich generosity. For I testify that they gave as
much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entire-
ly on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege
of sharing in this service to the saints [those who devote tem-
selves to God]. (2 Corinthians, 8:1-4)
They preached the good news [God's commandments] in that
city and won a large number of disciples. Then they returned to
