ed to him. This is how this fact is revealed in the Qur'an:
Who would de lib er ate ly re nounce the re li gion of Abraham ex cept
some one who re veals him self to be a fool? We chose him in the
world and in the Hereafter he will be one of the right eous. When
his Lord said to him, "Become a Muslim!" he said, "I am a Muslim
who has sub mit ted to the Lord of all the worlds." Abraham di rect -
ed his sons to this, as did Jacob: "My sons! Allah has cho sen this
re li gion for you, so do not die ex cept as Muslims." Or were you
present when death came to Jacob and he said to his sons, "What
will you wor ship when I have gone?" They said, "We will wor -
ship your God, the God of your fore fa thers, Abraham, Ishmael
and Isaac–one God. We are Muslims sub mit ted to Him." (Surat al-
Baqara, 130-133)
As the above extract shows, the world Muslim means "one who has
submitted to God." The Prophet Abraham's (pbuh) pure belief is common
to Jews, Christians and Muslims. Belief in the Prophet Abraham (pbuh),
the love and respect felt for him, are important for Muslims in the same
way as they are for Jews and Christians. However, those closest to the
Prophet Abraham (pbuh) represent a role model for all believers. His joy-
ous faith in and profound love for Allah, his willing submission to all our
Lord's commandments, his obedience and his superior moral values all
comply with the morality he preached. As our Lord reveals in the Qur'an:
The peo ple with the strong est claim to Abraham are those who
fol lowed him and this Prophet and those who be lieve. (Surah Al
'Imran, 68)
Therefore, Jews and Christians who genuinely believe in Allah must,
like the Prophet Abraham (pbuh) and the true believers who followed
him, take their excellent moral values, sincerity and profundity as role
models. No doubt, one of the best ways for believers to demonstrate their
love, obedience and closeness to the Prophets is to strive for purity, like
them. Muslims believe in all the revelations given to all Prophets, making
no distinctions between them.
