Sri Lanka
An island nation in the Indian Ocean off south-east India, Sri Lanka has sixteen
million inhabitants. The majority of the population are Buddhist Sinhalese (74%).
20% are Indian Tamils. The Sinhalese hold power in the country. Tamils, living in
northern Sri Lanka, launched a guerrilla war in 1980 against the Sinhalese regime
that turned into ongoing bloody civil-war that only nominally ended within the past
few years.

In Sri Lanka, even small
children are involved in
the civil war.
