212 THE MIRACLE OF PROTEIN

                                                        For years, evolutionists tried to
                                                         prove that inorganic matter co-
                                                          incidentally built proteins in
                                                            the conditions of primor-
                                                              dial earth. However, to-
day it is a known fact
                                                               that proteins cannot
                                                               come into being by
                                                               chance.

the level of oxygen at that time was not low, as Darwinists
maintained, but was actually much higher than they had sug-
gested. Research also showed that during the early period,
10,000 times more ultraviolet light reached the Earth than Dar-
winists had first estimated. Inevitably, such intense ultraviolet

light would break down the water molecules in the atmosphere,
producing free oxygen. This fact, which Miller neglected to take
into account, made his experiment completely invalid. If he
had used oxygen in the experiment, the methane would have

broken down into carbon dioxide and water, and ammonia in-
to nitrogen and water. On the other hand, in an oxygen-free at-
mosphere before the ozone layer had come into existence,
amino acids directly exposed to ultraviolet rays would have
