the Koran God says, "Hold fast to the rope of God all together, and
do not separate..." (Koran, 3:103), and in another verse He says, "As

for those who deny Our signs and are arrogant regarding them,
the Gates of Heaven will not be opened for them, and they will
not enter the Garden until a camel goes through a needle's eye..."
              (Koran, 7:40)
The verses in question may be interpreted in their literal sens-
es by some people. In fact, however, the metaphors in both are ex-
ceedingly wise and contain meanings that grow deeper the more
one reflects on them. Our Lord's reference to "the rope of God" ad-
vises people to cling tightly to Him and the path He shows, and to
exhibit determination on the subject. Our Lord's reference to a
camel passing through the eye of a needle neatly describes how the
people in question will be unable to enter paradise - unless God so
wishes. This is an extremely fine and profound description. But in
order to understand it properly, we also need to perform an esoteric
              interpretation.
This applies to the Gospel and the Torah, as well as to the Ko-
ran. One wise passage from the Gospel requiring esoteric interpre-
              tation is this:
