STEP 2
Prior troubleshooting it is considered good practice to get familiarized with RDS and TMC:
• «TMC» or «Traffic Message Channel» is provided only by certain FM-stations and is part of the «Radio Data System» better known as “RDS”
• The RDS-signal is quite small compared to the FM-signal hence a strong FM-signal is required to receive RDS data and by extend TMC-information
• The TMC-data is received by the DCU in the background and provided to the MEU in order to display the traffic events. Only when a route is set and has traffic
events (delays, road works, accidents) it will be shown on the navigation screen
• The accuracy of the TMC-information and the frequency of updates is determined by the traffic provider not by the MEU or DCU. Both free and payable TMC
(encoded) exists, the latter is currently not supported
• By default the DCU will automatically select the best available TMC-station, however the customer can make a manual selection when desired (for example when
living close to a border and receiving a stronger foreign TMC provider)
• TMC is a different system than «Traffic via internet» which is also available on this system. «Traffic via internet» requires an internet connection and an active
Toyota account. When no internet is available the DCU will fall back to TMC
For additional information please consult the RDS-abbreviations section
STEP 3
Tips:
• Verify which FM-stations in your location actually broadcast TMC-information
• First and most important: diagnose AM-FM reception. Click the link for more details
• Be sure to test in an open space using to a strong FM-station that broadcasts «TMC-data»
• Verify that «Traffic messages» (under «Setup» «Navigation») is set to «TMC» and check «Radio traffic settings»
«Navigation» «Setup» «Navigation Traffic» screen TMC «Radio traffic» station selection
• «Auto»: the DCU will automatically select the best possible TMC provider?
• «Manual Mode»: allows the customer to select from a list of available TMC providers received at the current location
When moving out the range of this station TMC will not be available anymore. In general it is recommended to leave this setting to "Auto"
In "Manual Mode" you can easily check which FM-stations at your location indeed broadcast TMC and use it to compare with an identical
system and the same location.

• Verify that “Radius filter” is not set too narrow. For diagnostic purposes the recommended settings is “OFF” Then stop here

If none of the above troubleshooting tips could identify the root cause please proceed by replacing the DCU Replace DCU
