SADDINGTON Charles
Private
Born in September 1879 in Kings Cliffe, Charles was the eldest son
of George and Mary Ellen Saddington of West Street, Kings Cliffe.
He is not mentioned in any of the lists of men who volunteered
in 1914 and, as he was 34 years old, then it is likely that he was
conscripted in early 1916.
A report in the Stamford & Rutland news of 18th September 1918
states:-
“Private Charles Saddington (on furlough from the Orkney Isles) says
the customs of the natives are very primitive; they plough and cart
peat with oxen, and have no coal.”
He survived the war and his death is recorded in Oundle in 1942.
