Tom was born in 1887 in Kings Cliffe, the son of William and
Sarah Sharpe, who lived on Hog Lane.
He was still living with the family in 1901, but, by 1911, at the
age of 24, he has moved to Lutterworth and is working as a
grocery manager. He is still single.
Tom joined a heavy gun regiment probably early in 1916.
His detailed records have not survived the WW2 fire which,
destroyed 70% of the army records, and without knowing more
details of his battery it is not possible to know his war history.
He survived the war.

William Sharpe was born in January 1881, his parents being
William and Sarah Ann Sharpe, who lived on Hog Lane, Kings
Cliffe.
The family were still living there in 1891 but, by now there were
six children in the house.
By 1901 the family was still intact, with the exception that
17-year-old Fred had left home to be a domestic servant with
the Smiths, the local millers and bakers.
On August 25th 1902 William married Annie Grace Burrows and
they set up house on Park Street.
Their first child, Kenneth William, was born on 20th August
1909, and a daughter, Elfreda Mary Burrows Sharpe, followed
in September 1911.
William had followed his father’s trade of a slater and builder
and he was working at this trade when war was declared in
1914. He did not sign up until December 1915 and was not
mobilised until September 1916.
