his signing he was just under 35 years old, 5ft 8in tall (1.73m)
and weighed 128lb (58kg).
William initially joined the ASC Remount section, which
supplied and trained horses and mules for the army. He was
with them until June 1918, when he joined the Royal Guernsey
Light Infantry on the island and, at the same time, he was also
promoted to acting Lance Corporal.
William completed his time in the army on Guernsey and
returned home to Stamford Road, Kings Cliffe in March 1919.
He died in the village on 29th October 1942 aged 61.

William Sharpe was born in 1877 to William and Elizabeth (nee
Green) Sharpe of Kings Cliffe.
The family were living in Kings Cliffe at the time of his birth but
in 1886 they moved to Morehay Lawn, Southwick. William was
there with the family at the time of the 1891 census, but by 1901
he had left home.
The service number 5618 suggests that he joined the Regular
Army about November 1899.
We have no other information other than he seems to have
survived the war.

SHARPE William Harry
Private 3/10074 1st Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment
Born in 1895/6 in Kings Cliffe, William was the son of Harry and
Sarah Jane Sharpe, who lived at West Hay Cottages, Kings
Cliffe.
By 1911 the family had moved to Yarwell and 15-year- old
William was still with them.
He joined the 1st Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment, almost
certainly before war was declared, as the 1st Battalion was a
