1911, as a 15-year-old, he lived with his grandparents, Thomas
and Cinderella Green on Bridge Street. His grandparents had
four adult children, three of whom had married and set up their
own homes. The youngest, Rose Ellen Green, married Albert
Walter Bird in 1900. It is possible that Harry was the illegitimate
son of Rose five years before this marriage, and hence the
surname Green.
Harry joined the army at Northampton in early 1916 when
conscription came in, and went to France in July of that year.
He died of his wounds on 16th July 1917. He had possibly been
fighting in the third battle of Ypres. He is remembered on the
Kings Cliffe Roll of Honour.
He is buried at Monchy British Cemetery, Monchy-le-Preux,
